Writer, it's time to take a more holistic approach to success. 🌿
Introducing Creative Wellness...
Hello, writer!
Thank you for your interest in Creative Wellness. 🌿
You're in the right place if you long to build a joyful, abundant, and fulfilling writing life but currently feel stuck due to mental blocks and other creative frustrations.
My mission with Creative Wellness is to guide you in implementing a holistic approach to creative success. What do I mean by holistic exactly?
As writers, we often talk about success in terms of numbers:
How can I write or revise more words in a day?
How can I gain more followers and grow my readership?
How can I sell more books or land a six-figure book deal?
Under the right circumstances, these can be great questions to ask. But they can also be dangerous questions if they aren't considered from a place of creative wellness.
Case in point?
In the early years of my writing life, I strived to write every single day — so much so that I wrote for 1,000 days straight. That’s over 2.5 years of consistent daily writing! Impressive, right? Maybe at face value...
But behind the scenes, I was striving to maintain this daily writing streak while massively, heinously, desperately unwell.
Every day, I’d forgo writing hour after hour, plagued by immense fears and limiting beliefs, until I’d finally drag myself to the blank page a few short minutes before bed — only to hammer out the groggiest, ungainliest 200 words you will never read.
As you might imagine, this work structure did little to help me bring my creative projects to life in any meaningful way. Consequently, my efforts to build a consistent writing practice only left me feeling more and more inadequate in my creative work.
In terms of wellness, I was toast.
Burnt out and bitter — and haunted by the terrifying suspicion that I would never, ever, ever be enough.
In the end, it was my stubbornness that saved me.
Unwilling to give up writing, I spent years slowly (and painfully) clawing my way out of the mire of my mind and into a far healthier relationship with creative wellness and success. The most important thing I learned along the way?
If we want to lead joyful, fulfilling, and (yes!) wildly successful writing lives, then we can't chase big gains and sweet sales figures alone. Instead, we must take a more well-rounded approach to creative success.
A holistic approach, if you will.
If we define wellness as “the active pursuit of health and wellbeing,” then we can identify five foundational keys to creative wellness:
A healthy creative mindset
A consistent writing practice
A focus on aligned work (i.e., the projects that really make you come alive!)
A diverse and highly developed creative skillset
A pursuit of personal creative wealth and abundance
These keys aren't only essential to the writing lives we long to lead; they also build upon one another to pave the way for creative success in every sense of the word.
As evidenced by my early writing experience, a consistent writing practice means little without a healthy dose of self-assurance. You also won’t get very far when working on a passion project if you don’t consistently show up for your creative work — and as exciting as aligned work might be, it's unlikely to make an impact on the world if you fail to hone your ability to effectively write, revise, and share your stories with interested readers.
But if you can combine each of these elements in turn...
A healthy creative mindset
A consistent writing practice
Highly-aligned work
A diverse and well-developed creative skillset
…then there are very few limits to the amount of wealth and abundance you can usher into your writing life.
That’s why we’re going to explore each of these five keys to creative wellness in depth, week after week and from every angle imaginable, as we journey together in pursuit of holistic, fulfilling, and deeply meaningful creative success.
